How do I upload plans, drawings or documents to a project?
This article will summarize how to store project plans, drawings and other documents in Corfix, and link them to a project so your crew can find them from either place.
Short answer: project documents live in Binders, not inside the project itself. Create a binder for the project, link it to the project, then upload your files into that binder.
Overview: projects and binders work together
Think of a project as the job itself (job number, cost codes, workers) and a binder as the job's filing cabinet. The project doesn't hold files on its own. Instead, you point a binder at the project.
- Binders is where you create folders and upload files (plans, drawings, specs, permits).
- Linking a binder to a project adds a View Binders button on that project, which opens the linked binder directly.
- Everything inside a linked binder (sub-binders and files) is reachable from the project too. Link the top binder once and you're done.
Recommended layout:
Binders
└── Projects (one parent binder for all projects)
├── [Project] Plans (linked to that project)
│ └── [Sub-binder] (e.g. for the current drawing set)
└── [Project] Plans (linked to that project)
Do this each time you create a new project. It takes about two minutes.
- Create the project as you normally do.
- Go to Binders and open your Projects parent binder (create one first if you don't have it).
- Click Add Binder in the top right.
- Fill in the pop-up:
- Name: use the project's name so it's easy to find.
- Role Accessible: leave this blank. Blank means everyone can see it. Only pick roles if you want to restrict access.
- Projects: click the + button, search for your project, click it in the list, then click Select.
- Click Save. The binder is now linked to the project.
- Open the binder and upload your plans and documents into it.
How to link a binder you already made
If you already uploaded plans to a binder but it isn't showing on the project, link it here.
Important: do this from the Binders list. Editing from inside the project's Project Details page won't work.
- Go to Binders and open Projects.
- If you're inside the job's binder, click To Parent Binder so you see the list of job binders.
- Hover over the job's binder, click Choose Action, then Edit. Don't click into the binder.
- In Role Accessible, deselect all roles so everyone can see it.
- In Projects, click +, search for the project, click it, then click Select. Even if the project name already appears in the field, select it again here.
- Click Save.
- Check it worked: go to Projects, open the project, click View Binders. Your binder and its files should appear.
How to move a file or binder into a sub-folder
Use Move To instead.
- Hover over the file, click Choose Action, then Move To.
- In the Choose a folder pop-up, click the arrow to the left of Projects to expand it. Clicking the name itself selects it as the destination instead.
- Keep clicking arrows to drill down.
- When you see the destination folder, click its name. It will underline.
- Click Move.
Rule of thumb: arrows open folders, names pick the destination. If a file seems to vanish, check the folder that was underlined when you clicked Move.
Use cases
- Revised drawings: keep the current drawing set in its own sub-binder so the field doesn't grab an outdated set by mistake.
- One link per job: link the top job binder once and every sub-binder you add later shows up on the project automatically.
- Two ways in: office staff can browse Binders → Projects, while field crews tap View Binders on the project. Both reach the same files.
- Tidy up old setups: use Move To to pull stray job binders under the Projects parent.
Common questions
Can I upload documents from the project page? The project's View Binders button takes you to the linked binder, so you can, but the simplest habit is to always upload from Binders.
Do I need to pick roles? No. Leave Role Accessible blank so everyone can see the files.
I made a duplicate project by accident. How do I delete it? Go to Projects, click the duplicate's name, click the pencil (Edit) button in the top right, scroll to the bottom and click Delete. Warning: deleting a project can't be undone. Before you delete, confirm it's the right one (e.g. the duplicate has no Project Number). If unsure, contact support first.
