How do I adjust the size of the photos on my Forms?

This article will summarize how to configure the Photo Component to ensure your images appear the way you want them  both your digital form and your final PDF documents.

⚠️ Important Considerations

Note on Photo Orientation: Depending on how a photo is taken (Landscape/Portrait), the image may appear differently in your form regardless of your settings. We recommend testing your form with both orientations to ensure the layout remains consistent for your needs.

Overview

The Photo Component allows users to take a live picture using their device's camera or upload an existing image file. By adjusting the settings in the File tab, you can control how the camera behaves and how the resulting image is stored and displayed.

How It Works (Step-by-Step)

To edit these settings, click on the Photo Component in your form builder and select the File tab.

  1. Enable Web Camera: Check this box to allow users to take a photo directly from their browser or mobile device. If unchecked, users will only be able to upload files from their storage.

  2. Webcam Width: This setting (defaulted to 320) determines the width of the live "viewfinder" or camera preview while the user is actually taking the photo.

  3. Image Display Size: This controls how large the photo appears on the form after it has been taken or uploaded.

    • What does "200" mean? This value is in pixels. Setting this to 200 ensures the image doesn't take up the entire screen, keeping your form compact and readable.

  4. Image Pixel Size: This is the most important setting for your final PDF.

    • This value (defaulted to 800) determines the actual resolution of the saved file.

    • To change the size on the final PDF: Increase this number for higher-quality, larger images on your documents, or decrease it if you find the images are appearing too large or causing the PDF file size to be too heavy.

  5. Save Your Changes: Once you have adjusted these values, click the green Save button at the bottom of the window.

Use Cases and Benefits

  • Inspections: Capture high-resolution photos of equipment for detailed PDF maintenance reports by increasing the Image Pixel Size.

  • Fast Uploads: In areas with poor internet connection, lowering the Image Pixel Size creates smaller files that upload much faster.
